Most orthodontic treatment is carried out without any ensuing discomfort or issues. In the rare occurrence that you do experience some discomfort or issue with your brace please refer to our guide below for existing patients.
IF YOUR TEETH ARE SORE AFTER A VISIT
You may need to take an anti-inflammatory such as Nurofen or another ibuprofen based medicine.
IF YOUR BRACES CAUSE WIRE IRRITATION
Try moving the wire from the irritated area with a cotton swab or eraser on the end of a pencil. If the wire will not move, try covering at the end of it with a small piece of cotton or a small amount of wax or sugar-free chewing gum.
IF THE MAIN WIRE OR A BRACKET COMES LOOSE
Please call our practice during working hours to schedule a repair appointment.
IF YOUR RETAINER IS BROKEN OR LOST
Call the practice to arrange an appointment for new impressions for a new replacement retainer as soon as possible in order to avoid undue tooth shift.
IF AN APPLIANCE COMES LOOSE
e.g. Habit breaker and bonded wires. Call the practice during working hours to arrange an appointment at your earliest convenience or leave a message if out of hours. Loose appliances may be temporarily secured using wax or sugar-free chewing gum.
